Cremation Or Burial? .
The death of somebody close to you is a sad, and emotional time for everyone involved. Both close friends and family will be devastated by the news, of the loss of a loved one and some, generally closer family members, may find it hard to deal with the grief.
Pre-planning your burial or cremation will relieve close family, of any burden of doing so, on your behalf. There is a lot to arrange and pre-planning, with the help of your local funeral home, will enable your family to mourn you together without any worry.
Whether you have chosen a traditional burial or a more cost effective cremation, your local funeral home will be able to advise you on all matters including memorial service, burial plot, urns, transportation, printing and flowers.
The cost of a traditional burial has increased quite significantly over recent years and as we all feel the pinch from the global recession, many more of us are opting for cremation. With prices as low as $600 for a direct cremation (without a service) you can see why. Traditional burials are now said to have reached $2500 for a basic burial and can easily top $12.500 if you want all the trimmings.
Contrary to popular belief, a memorial service, much the same as when you are buried, can still be held when you are cremated and close family and friends are able to read antidotes, sing hymns and pay their last respects.
Another misconception, regarding cremation is where the ashes can be kept. The majority of people will buy an urn and the ashes will be kept in this, in the family home for generations to come. Others prefer their ashes to be scattered in a favourite place of theirs, even in the back garden! Alternatively a plot can be bought, complete with a headstone, and the ashes buried here much like a traditional burial. People can then still visit the ‘grave’ and place flowers etc to pay their respects.
Pre-planning your own funeral, whether it is a burial or cremation, is a must. Take the burden off your family, both emotionally and financially, after you die and contact your local funeral home director for more information.
