One of the most undemanding and the most workable ways to knock over blood sugar amount, eliminate the dangers of cardiovascular disease,?and perk up health and welfare in general is exercise. In spite of that, in today's inactive world where almost every indispensable job can be carried out online, from the ergonomic chair in front of a computer, or with a streaming line of messages from a fax machine, exercising can be a hard argument to win over.

The Weight of Exercise

Everyone should exercise, yet the health experts tells us that only 30% of the United States population gets the recommended thirty minutes of daily physical activity, and 25% are not active at all. In fact, inactivity is thought to be one of the key reasons for the surge of type 2 diabetes in the U.S., because inactivity and obesity promote insulin resistance. The good news is that it is never too late to get moving, and exercise is one of the easiest ways to start controlling your diabetes. For people with type 2 diabetes in particular, exercise can improve insulin sensitivity, lower the risk of heart disease, and promote weight loss.

Type 2 Diabetes

Diabetes is on the rise. The number of people diagnosed with diabetes every year increased by 48% between 1980 and 1994. Nearly all the new cases are Type 2 Diabetes, or adult-onset, the kind that moves in around middle age. Type 2 Diabetes include increased thirst, appetite, and need to urinate; feeling tired, edgy, or sick to the stomach; blurred vision; tingling or loss of feeling in the hands~Symptoms of Type 2 Diabetes include increased thirst, appetite, and need to urinate ; feeling tired, edgy, or sick to the stomach; blurred vision; tingling or loss of feeling in the hands}.

The causes of type 2 diabetes are complex and not completely understood, although research is uncovering new clues at a rapid pace.

However, it has already been proven that one of the reasons for the boom in type 2 diabetes is the widening of waistbands and the trend toward a more deskbound and inactive lifestyle in the United States and other developed countries. In America, the shift has been striking; in the 1990s alone, obesity increased by 61% and diagnosed diabetes by 49%.

The astonishing development in specialised stuttering therapies has been well documented within the media and even Joe Biden, the US vice presidential candidate, has managed to join the debate by stating that he has also managed to overcome a stutter. So what about children who have a stutter, is this stammering therapy of benefit to them as well?

If you ask this question to 100 men who are in their 40s and have this form of speech impediment

Which period of your life has been the most difficult due to your speech impediment? Childhood or adulthood etc?

From the many stutterer’s that I have met since I have been running The How To Stop Stuttering Centre in the UK – I would say that a large percentage of them would say that their childhood was the worst period. For people who stutter there can be many troublesome times as they mature through childhood.

Do kids gain from therapy for stuttering? Well all I can say is that I would have loved somebody to offer me the chance to achieve fluency when I was fourteen years of age, unfortunately this type of specialised stuttering help treatment was not available back then.

To achieve fluency takes a lot of hard work and dedication; that goes without saying. Certain kids are not mature enough or have the conviction to work to the required levels. With their parents help and guidance the therapy will however be of great benefit even to these people as it will at least give them options and make them aware of what they should be doing to speak fluently.

The majority of children would walk to the other side of the world in order to achieve fluency and therefore are more than happy to work very hard towards eradicating the stutter. Specialised stuttering therapy can quite simply change these types of children’s lives.

Stuttering is a speech disorder where the individual’s natural flow of speech is disrupted by frequent repetitions or prolongations of certain sounds, syllables and words. Sometimes, this makes it impossible to even say even just a single word. A person who stutters can also experience rapid eye blinks, trembling lips and jaw and sometimes, the upper body. There is no certain cause of stuttering but experts say things can get worse because of stress. According to them, one of the best ways on how to stop stuttering is to learn how to manage stress.

I have a classmate once in elementary grade who stutters when he tried to speak in front of the class when the teacher tells us to do so. He will start to tremble, fix his eyes on the floor, both hand clasped against each other, he starts to talk but stutters and before you know it, he will break down in tears. Now, after 25 years, we met again in our general alumni homecoming and we were all surprised that he doesn’t stutter anymore. He had found a way to stop stuttering and we were even more surprised when he told us he just learned how to do that just a few months back.

Oh my, I thought out loud, how can he ever get through life when he was stammering all this time? Well, I don’t know the answer but I’m sure was glad to find out that he had learned how to stop stuttering and according to him, he had done it in a natural and safe way- no drugs. He added that he he had discovered a remedy for stuttering through the Net. He related to us how he had learned of this Stop Stuttering System, a combination of a book and a video course and how it had helped him get rid of his problem the soonest possible time. We were even more surprised when he went onstage and read a letter from one of our dear teachers congratulating us.

According to latest figures, around one percent of people in the UK have a stutter. I would guess that the majority of these people have attempted to overcome the speech impediment at some stage of their life. This is what they may have found:

Traditional speech therapy

Speech therapy is where the majority of people who stutter will start when trying to improve their speech. I went to see a speech therapist for the first time when I was aged just 5 and I continued to attend various forms of speech and language treatment for the next 18 years. Thirteen years and I still had the stutter, that was successful!

The advice I had been given at speech therapy was basically:

speak slowly

take a deep breath before you speak

accept your stutter

I am sorry but that advice is just not good enough.

Group stuttering speech courses

There are now a number of private speech courses that offer stuttering/stammering help and are run on a group basis. In my opinion these are of more value than traditional speech therapy as at least the aim of the course is to eradicate the stutter. Speech therapy is more of controlling and accepting the stutter.

One to one speech courses

There are also one to one speech courses available. I personally believe that this is the best form of stuttering therapy as each person will have their own individual stutter and needs.

Stuttering self help dvd and ebook

For people who would prefer a self help form of stuttering therapy, there are now stuttering dvds and ebooks available. Whichever form of stuttering treatment you choose it is essential that you work hard to practice the techniques.

With regards to the practice it is without doubt that the more the merrier is the way to go. If you are looking for available stuttering therapy courses and self-help treatments then The How To Stop Stammering Centre which is based in the UK could be exactly what you are looking for.

Are you looking for techniques that can help you to eradicate your stutter? Were you hoping for more after attending speech and language therapy? Have you had enough of accepting second best in life? The above three questions are ones that I would regularly answer in the positive during the eighteen years when I had a stutter. I was constantly looking for that miracle “stuttering cure”.

Now I am fully aware to call it a stuttering cure is not exactly what some people would call the “correct English” but I basically was looking for a way or a set of techniques that could enable me to “stop stuttering“. At there time there were not that many stuttering therapies out there, or at least not ones that were worthy of the name.

I always find it strange when I read about the so called National Associations for Stuttering or Stammering. For some reason they seem to always advise people to attend local speech and language therapy. Well that is a great referral! Why refer to me a person who has absolutely no comprehension on this type of speech impediment and a person who openly admits that they are unable to coach me to fluency? Speech therapy does not work for people who stutter, well not to the levels that they desire – again to stop stuttering completely and let’s face it anything else is to accept second best.

I searched high and low in my quest to find the solutions to stuttering. I read many a book, asked many a question and studied many of the “best talkers”.

I put in a massive amount of effort, hard work and dedication as that is what is required. The majority of people are fully aware and accept that there is not one magical pill that can cure a stutter. What is required is a desire to succeed and a willingness to work hard to ensure that the techniques become second nature.

There is now a seventy-minute film which has been produced by the How To Stop Stuttering Centre which has full explanations of the techniques required to achieve fluency.

Phobia Of Speech

February 22, 2010

I developed a stutter or as some people call it a stammer in childhood. From what my parents tell me it started when I was four years of age.

Despite regular speech therapy over the next fourteen years my stutter became worse. I remember quite clearly the fear of having to read out from a book in class. Walking into the classroom, for example an English lesson, I would see that there was a book on each desk. My mind would begin to stress and would think that the tutor would ask me to read from the book. Just waiting my turn, knowing that it would result in yet another one of those stuttering moments would be torture.

Socialising with friends was not exactly easy for me either. I am fairly sure that the majority of people enjoy going out with their friends and even look forward to the prospect. For me though this was not the case, I would be counting down the days as the week went on.

My worst area of speech was using the telephone. To say that the telephone was something I would avoid using would have been something of an understatement – luckily my father made the majority of the calls on my behalf. Some people may say that this was not exactly helping me in the long run. This may be correct and I was very grateful at the time.

After leaving school, I started to attend interviews to try to find employment including a very bad one at a business cost cutting company. I would normally stutter more when under pressure or when meeting new people and both of these situations are prevalent in an interview situation. I would normally arrive at the interview very tired after a lack of sleep through the stress of it all and I have to say found it very difficult to convince any employer to take me on.

As you can no doubt imagine I was eager to find a way of stopping stuttering and I did eventually attain fluency after purchasing a seventy minute self-help stuttering therapy DVD from the UK. I now live happy and successful life and as a career I now I work for a DVD authoring company.

I hope other people who have a stutter can gain inspiration from my story – stuttering can be overcome and do not listen to those who say otherwise.

I once had a neighbour who was about sixty-five. She was such a negative person, very rarely smiled and seemed to moan about almost everything. Her name was Nancy.

When I first moved to this particular area, I tried to make friends with the people who lived close to me, this was fairly easy as I sold Tesco Voucher Codes as well as offering a DVD duplication service for a living which was a kind of excuse for talking to them. When I first met Nancy she kept saying how ill she felt and about how her back was playing her up. I went away from this meeting feeling quite sorry for Nancy.

About a month later I met Nancy again. I enquired as to how she was doing on this bright and sunny day. I wish I had not bothered as I then had to listen to all of her problems. She did not have one happy thing to say. Over the next few years of living by Nancy, I actually went out of my way to avoid her.

I have to admit that I also used to feel sorry for myself. I grew up with a speech impediment known as a stutter. I could never quite comprehend as to why I developed this speech impediment. It did not seem fair to me as I believed I was a really nice person.

I lived with the stuttering problem until the age of twenty-two and then began to have a change of attitude. I started to focus on the many people in the world who had it far tougher than I did; by just looking and reading about people who live in Iraq and Afghanistan certainly opened up my eyes to a new way of thinking.

If I am asked by a particular person as to how I am I will now almost always reply in a positive manner – that is even if I am feeling really bad. I try and walk around with a smile on my face and am now living life to the full. I have also managed to overcome that horrible speech impediment and to therefore learn the ways to eradicate stuttering.

People like Nancy could do with having the same change in attitude and they may find they have more visitors to their house and that some of their ailments disappear.

Tips On How To Cure A Stammer

February 21, 2010

People who stutter at times seek a way to overcome their speech problem, as having a stutter can at times make life a struggle. For people seeking help to overcome stuttering there are intensive one-to-one speech courses which teach people how to eradicate the stutter and there are numerous self-help products available such as a DVD, an audio-book and a DVD.

Since overcoming my own stutter, I am now able to order food and drink for example, without fear of stuttering or stammering as some people call it. I am able to talk on the telephone and am able to enjoy socialising without the fear of stuttering. I have become a more positive and happy person, life is no longer the battle it once used to be. I appreciate my speech compared with the average fluent person, who do not realise how lucky they are. There are those who have even stated that I speak too much – this has to be a good thing lol.

Ten years ago I met my present girlfriend, Sharron, who has an fifteen-year-old daughter, called Taryn. Together we have a son who is nine years old, called Ethan.

My fiancee has helped me as she is an extremely upbeat person who has a very much care-free attitude to life.

I have now become far more successful in my business life where I offer cheap calls as I work with a business cost reduction specialist.

Being able to speak fluently helps no end of course and I am very proud of myself for working so hard, with such a determination, to ensure that I eradicated the stutter once and for all. It certainly was not easy and it took quite a long time (around eleven months) but it was well worth all of the effort.

I now feel free, like a weight has been lifted from my shoulders. As you can no doubt imagine both my self-esteem and self-confidence levels have increased in a big way.

I am thirty-six years of age and live in Birmingham, England. From the age of four I unfortunately had a speech impediment known as stuttering. This impediment basically ruined my life for eighteen years before I finally managed to overcome the stutter. This article is all about stuttering or as some people call it stammering.

Stammering or stuttering can have a dramatic effect on somebodys confidence and it certainly seemed to my crush mine. It made me accept second best in life and stopped me living my life as I wanted to.

It is extremely difficult for a fluent person to comprehend how hard it is to live your life with a speech impediment or stutter.

I now run stop stuttering courses from my home town of Birmingham. A couple of years ago one of my clients told me about a situation he had been involved in. He and his friends went to a bar one Saturday afternoon to have a few drinks. After a couple of pints he went up to the bar to order himself a drink. Unfortunately he could not speak all of the words fluently and the barman accused him of being drunk and refused to serve him. He stated to the bar worker that he was not intoxicated and that he actually had a speech impediment – the bar man just thought he was lying though.

When he got back to the table, his mates enquired as to where his pint was. He told them what had happened, this itself was very embarressing.

Whether you are work selling external doors or if you offer cheap calls; effective communication is essential to all of us. Unfortunately for some, like myself in the past, stuttering can have a dramatic impact on our lives.

Steve runs The How to Stop Stuttering Centre in the UK where he offers a one-to-one intensive therapy course helping people to achieve fluency.

Treatments For Stammering

February 20, 2010

Are you somebody who has a stammer? My name is Stephen Hill and I had a stammer problem which started when I was aged four. After suffering with the speech impediment for eighteen years, I then, afer a lot of hard work, managed to achieve fluency. This article is about the types of speech therapy that are available for stammering.

After my stammer developed, my parents decided that I needed to attend some sort of speech therapy. I attended various types of therapy, some in groups, some on a one to one basis. Over the years I have been given a lot of information and advice with regards to overcoming the stammer. These are some of them:

slowing down the speed of my speech

costal breathing

prolonging each word or sound

taking a deep breath before I started speaking

I was a child that started at what I suppose would be considered to be the first class – preschool stammering. I was very young to attend stammering speech therapy and my parents were reassured that most people who stammer in childhood soon grow out of it. Well for whatever reason, I was one of those who continued well into my adult life.

I grew older and then joined the class known as childhood stammering. I kept on attending speech and language therapy despite the lack of progress that I was making. I guess I continued to go to keep my parents happy. This had little effect on my fluency and it has to be stated, that I really did not want to attend these anti stammering sessions. This was because I felt that the people who were trying to help me, did not really understand what I was going through, as they had never actually had a stammer themselves.

I then progressed to the class called, adult stammering. I now decided that speech therapy was not really working for me and seeked alternative stammering treatment.

I decided to try my own form of stammering help. Even though I had a stammer, at times I could talk very well. As an example when I was drunk, I spoke superbly. This was possibly because of the additional confidence the alcohol seemed to give me.

After nearly a year I managed to overcome stammering and eradicate the stammer once and for all. As a career I now help other people to stop stammering.
